The third-largest economy in the world after US and China, measured in terms of PPP, Japan is second most technological powerful economy in the world. The country imports raw-materials and fuels for running its industries. Japan's growth rate has decreased to 1.7% per annum largely because of the after effects of over-investment and an asset price bubble during the late 1980s that required a protracted period of time for firms to reduce excess debt, capital and labor.
